★ Born June 17 in Newark, New Jersey to Arata Nakahara and Lucy Yukimura. His parents were second-generation Japanese-Americans. Arata worked in construction with aspirations of making it big as a musician. Lucy was a mechanic.
★ At age three Kazuki was removed from his parents' care after visits by CPS agents determined evidence of abuse and drugs in the home. At the time of his removal,
Kazuki was severely underweight and had an open, infected wound on his face that required hospitalization.
★ Kazuki was placed with his paternal great-aunt and uncle in Saddle River, New Jersey. Lita and Charlie Song were well into retirement age and quite wealthy, but had never been able to have children. When they were given Kazuki, they saw him as a gift and spoiled him rotten.
★ He grew from a nervous, frightened little boy into a loud teenager with a love of punk music and a smoking habit. He nearly drove his aunt and uncle to an early grave with his antics, including a time when he skipped school to drive to New York with friends to attend a three day concert.
★ He managed to get into a college in California by the skin of his teeth where he discovered a love of science and mathematics. In his sophomore year, he changed his major from history to microbiology.
★ He was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in his junior year, after which he began taking medication to treat it.
★ Considered medical school after college, but the competitive and stressful nature of it was not his style. He spent some time working at a daycare and realized that he really liked helping children. So, he went back to school for his teaching degree.
★ He likes little kids and had hoped to teach science in elementary school, but positions were hard to come by. He ended up teaching biology Ridgeview High.
