she pulled her sister's id out from wallet, swiped it effortlessly. shiloh knew she didn't need it; she didn't leave the house on the weekends. not even in the summer, since she had decided to take summer classes. shiloh wasn't interested in pursuing the same path, only wanted her id but none of her dreams.

that's how she ended up at the flamingo bar on a friday night, a little past midnight because she had to wait for her sister to head to bed. unceremoniously garbed in all black to make herself meld into the darkness, a habit she had acquired over the past year. shiloh knew she looked old enough to enter the bar, wondered who else from ridgeview would be thinking the same thing.

she didn't go immediately, instead chose to hang around on the block the street was located on. from her pocket, she produced a pack of cigarettes and pulled out a single one out to rest between her lips. glancing out towards the other side of the street, shiloh absently lit it and inhaled deeply.

FOLLOWING THE DREAM
A little change in the radio segments in favour of a special one about a local musician had freed Teagan from work. He should have been happy. Instead, the interruption of the quickly picked up routine disconcerted him. While driving back, he kept thinking about how to end the day and start the night. It felt too early to go back home. But it gave him a chance to be back before his parents' dinner outside. Pensive, he weighed this reflection as the car started to cross the city. People - alone or in small groups - were loitering on the sidewalks; another thought came to his mind.

Car parked, Teagan peered into the rearview mirror then checked his cropped tapered trousers and his linen shirt. His outfit was a little too formal to his tastes and for going outside, but he could still manage to have a good time. With a shrug, he grabbed his bag then left his car. As he closed his vehicle, his lips drew a thin playful smile.

While he got nearer to the Flamingo Bar, ready to pull his fake ID out of his wallet, he slowed down, looking for some familiar faces around him. No one. Taking his phone out of his bag, Teagan moved away to make a call, but his motion stopped as a silhouette intrigued him.

"Pale as the moon and draped in the night. You look like a colorless girl," Bold colors, daring dresses, or faces irradiating with happiness. The others wanted to be seen. He pulled his phone back. "or are you here to lift your spirit?" He was too curious to leave her alone.

she hated this place and everything it had to offer. that was exactly the problem: there was nothing here for her. peachtree was no longer home. it hadn't been for a year or so, since the two most meaningful people had been torn from her life. forcefully. now shiloh was no better than a ghost in the place that she was supposed to call home. oh yeah, that 'h' word din't apply to her any longer but it was something she had accepted with a glower on her face. instead of a ghost, shi became the only thing a corporeal being could: a loner.

the nicotine surged through her system, quickly bestowing a dizzying affect on the young woman. it was a release when she finally exhaled, an opaque collection of smoke obstructed her view momentarily. the grimace on her face didn't lighten, not even with assistance of a cancer stick hanging loosely from her fingers. shiloh's hues darkened to a murky cerulean, camoflauging with the rest of her dreary garb. truly, she had almost completely vanished.

her eyes lolled over to the figure that chose to approached her, expression stoic as he spouted off lurid words towards her. "you're putting too much weight behind the belief that i'm a mystery waiting to be unearthed," shiloh flatly said to him. the ash from her cigarette languidly fell to the darkened cement beneath her feet. "there's nothing behind this 'colorless' face. emptiness," shiloh said to him, her smile waning.

FOLLOWING THE DREAM
Was she a mystery or a riddle? The ambient cheerfulness bounced on her invisible wall. Apathy oozed from her movements. In his eyes, she looked like the apparition of a lost girl who could have been anywhere. "You aren't a ghost, but you feel like one." His voice sounded soft. A quick whisper, while several images filled his mind. Sometimes, there was these character in horror movie: the one who seemed so real but kept wandering at the place where they had met death. Unable to move away, to break away. A surreal character full of a real anger and distress.

"Shouldn't you devour your emptiness before it entirely sucks your soul, Miss Moonynighty?" Emptiness brought back some memories. Being crushed. Head plunged into a dark water, figuratively speaking.

Teagan remained at the same spot. Body relaxed. Gaze focused on her face. He rarely shied away from eye contact. The corners of his mouth quirked up into an unfazed smile. With his hair styled and shoved back, just a few bangs falling on his forehead, he always managed to look slightly older.

"If you don't want to stop feeding your monster," his voice started as he squatted down until his eyes looked straight at hers. "do you want to knock it out?" He paused, but he didn't really need it. A pause was like a short or long breath. A way to give the other a time to think. "Can I invite you to drink, maybe in a less noisy place?"

her dim gaze continued to peer over at the guy, absorbing the assumptions he spouted off about her. it was more observation than anyone had given her since transferring to ridgeview. to the other students, she truly qualified as a ghost. or maybe she was a wraith because of how much torment still plagued her. this interaction was cursory, something else she hadn’t experienced in quite some time. “trying to tell me something groundbreaking or mind blowing? it isn’t going to work on me,” shiloh spoke to him, words bleak.

“if you can come up with a better nickname, i’ll consider answering your question with at least a hint of honesty,” she countered, words ceased to allow her to inhale deeply after she brought her cigarette to her lips. opacity momentarily shielded her from teagan’s stare, returning her presence to reality once the smoke had dispelled.

she didn’t recognize the guy. but truthfully, shiloh didn’t put any weight behind the task of memorizing names and faces. no one at ridgeview mattered, except for the assholes who chose to taunt her. shiloh would never let those faces escape from her memory. muted ire filled her, prompted her to fling the cigarette to the ground and step on it to fully extinguish it.

“that would be preferred,” she answered him, composure unshaken even though his gaze evenly met her own. he would find her gaze impenetrable, her lips pulled back to present teagan with a subdued smile. “quit trying to probe me and that offer sounds fine.” she turned on her heel, stepping towards the entrance without waiting for him to supply her with an answer.
