OSWALD EVERETT WYRMWOOD
PLAYED BY KIMMY // SHE/THEY // CRYBABY DEVILMAN, RYO ASUKA
✒️ A California native, the Wyrmwood family hails from San Bernadino, California. Middle child in a group of five, but by far the quietest one. All his siblings are bright in their own ways and take up the limelight with practiced ease. They were born with it. He wasn't but he's ok. He never liked the attention anyway.
✒️ Keep your mouth shut, and your head low and you'll get through life just fine. Except he can't keep his mouth shut. He's a smart ass and everyone knows it. Through clenched knuckles and pursed lips, with tears in his eyes, he snaps something malicious and cutting. It's recess during the first grade when he utters his first, big boy curse word as well as a not so nice description about his classmate's mother's womb.
✒️ Like his father, he takes a liking to poetry and reading. His father is a gifted man with recognition. He counsels him in his craft, one of the few children in the Wyrmwood family that has taken a liking to their father's art. It start's out right, but then rumors bubble up. "His dad's famous" "It's favoritism" "Paid the judges" Suddenly Oswald's accomplishments are worthless and he's just a solitary bookworm once again.
✒️ He comes home crying with his award certificate the third time, and his mother decides enough is enough. He's 13 when she yells at him, demanding to know why he isn't crying tears of joy. He protests but he knows HER son, her flesh and blood. Raw energy sparks between mother and child before Oswald begrudgingly relents and tells her. She curses under her breath and hugs him before kneeling before him and staring them dead in the eye. "Don't tell your father I said this, but fuck 'em."
✒️ His mother calls it the fuck it adjustment and he keeps it in mind as he goes back to school the next monday, shrugging off the white noise of his peers jeers. He doesn't talk anymore, only writes furiously. He hones his craft, he submits essays. He learns different poetry styles. He reads incessantly. Its hard at first but gradually he focuses his thoughts on the next step in his future writing career.
✒️ Oswald retreats into himself. The few interactions he has are either out of common courtesy or end in bloody noses and bruised lips. He can't defend himself but he can certainly talk smack for days. His record is 20 seconds before he says something that gets him attacked.
✒️ Even so, despite all the crap, awards come through with hard work. At first its local competitions like his school and county. Then a state competition with Letters About Literature Competition, and during his sophomore year he won the Emerson Prize for a paper on Theodore Roosevelt and his conservation efforts. His father's pride, and his peers' jealousy only fuels his need to write. He's making people eat their words and loving every minute of it.
✒️ Silence follows him, but its interrupted by peers who find him a friendly face. A few come to him for advice over the years or simply as a shoulder to cry on. He listens and speaks briefly but is always disappointed. No one wants to change, jsut complain and its exhausting to him.
✒️ When he entered Ridgeview, he goes to the newspaper club. Though he doesn't want to write stories, allowing others to take care of that unless absolutely necessary. He begs the teacher to allow him a small advice column where he undergoes a pen name and writes scathing answers to dumb teenage problems as an outlet for his aggression.
✒️ To his surprise these same dumb teenager actually listen and he oscillates between irate and ecstatic.
✒️ He continues to struggle with conversations and prefers to listen to other than be forced to speak. Naturally ,public speaking is not his strong suit. Oswald, whoever, is an incredibly fast texter. He's guaranteed to reply immediately. Any delay either from overthinking a reply, or writing a long one.
✒️ While he's not sure what to do with writing, if he even wants to pursue journalism, he continues entering his own work into contests hoping to at least get some college money out of it.
✏️ admires rappers and slam poets for being able to verbalize their written word so well.
✏️ thinking about piercing his ears for aesthetic purposes. he really likes ear cuffs.
✏️ the worst runner which is why he'd often end up beat up. despite this he's found of biking since he has no car to speak of
✏️ tends to write poison pen letters to those who wrong him, but its really just him putting to paper an elaborate insult he thought of after the encounter.
✏️ attends all school events even if he doesn't participate to watch others have fun.
✏️ Favorite food is spicy tuna roll with a ton of tempura flakes on it.
✏️ Due his lack of skill in verbal communication, he most often bubbles up angry curses meant to convey a general sense of 'go away' for any and every occasion.
